💍 Vow Cards FAQ

What is a vow card?

Are vow cards necessary for a Singapore wedding ceremony?

Good question. In fact, for my own wedding, I initially didn’t plan on getting vow cards either. I thought I’d just print my vows on A4 or read them off my phone (which is what many couples in Singapore do).

But before the wedding, my videographer and photographer suggested I use vow cards and they were absolutely right :) In the photos and videos shown to guests, the cards looked elegant and intentional, and even photographed beautifully with my invitation. It also felt more special to hold something well-made in that moment.

Looking back, I have no regrets getting vow cards. They elevated the ceremony, made the photos and videos shine, and now I have them as a keepsake forever.

Do both partners need vow cards?

Yes, most couples prefer to have a matching set so their ceremony photos look polished and balanced. It also makes a beautiful pair of keepsakes after the wedding.

How long should my wedding vow card be?

Most wedding vow cards hold about 150–250 words, which is roughly 1–2 minutes of spoken vows. In Singapore weddings, this length fits beautifully into most ceremonies and looks perfectly balanced on a printed 5x7" vow card.

The ideal length is one that feels natural — long enough to tell your story, yet short enough to remember your promise.

If you’re handwriting your vows, leave a small margin between lines so your words don’t feel cramped and you can read them easily during the ceremony. If you’re printing them, choose a legible, timeless font that complements your wedding theme.

At Orchid & Ink, each vow card is designed with intentional space, allowing your words to breathe and giving couples the option to display both vows side by side in a frame after the wedding.

💡 Tip: Aim for one heartfelt page, ending with your signature promise. It’s not about the word count, but its meaning.

What should I write on my wedding vow cards?

Your wedding vows are the most personal words you’ll ever share. They’re not just part of the ceremony, but a promise to your partner on your wedding day and a commitment you'll aim to live by throughout your marriage.

Most couples include three simple parts:

  1. A reflection on your journey together - how you met, what you’ve learned, and what makes your relationship special.

Example: “From our first coffee at Tiong Bahru Bakery to late-night drives along East Coast, you’ve been my calm and my adventure.”

  2. A promise for the future – what you’ll do for each other through good and hard days.

Example: “I promise to stand beside you, to laugh with you, and to always find my way back to you.”

  3. A closing line from the heart – your signature phrase or a symbolic line.

Example: “With this vow, I choose you — today and every day.”

Your vow cards hold these words — the promises you’ll return to as you grow together. Whether handwritten or printed, they become keepsakes of your love story and the life you’re building together.

Can I include my own vows inside the card?

Absolutely! You can have your vows printed inside your card for a polished finish. Simply upload or send us your text when ordering, and we’ll send you a proof before printing if needed.

Handwritten vs printed vow cards Singapore - which should I choose?

Both handwritten and printed vow cards have their own charm, it really depends on your style and how you’d like to cherish your keepsake.

Handwritten vows feel raw, personal, and romantic. They capture the little imperfections of your handwriting, perfect if you want something heartfelt and uniquely yours. They’re also ideal if you’ll be writing your vows closer to the wedding day, as you can pen them directly onto the card at the last minute.

Printed vows look timeless and polished, ideal if you prefer neat typography or plan to frame your cards as display pieces after your wedding. Printed cards work best if you already have your vows prepared in advance.

At Orchid & Ink, we offer both options: a lightly-lined insert for handwritten vows and professional vow printing for those who prefer a cleaner look. Each card is designed to reflect your story, however you choose to express it.

💡 Tip: Think about how you’ll treasure the cards after the wedding - printed for display or handwritten for sentiment. You can even print the main text and sign off with a signature at the end, blending elegance with intimacy.

What sizes do your cards come in?

For vow cards, Orchid & Ink sells them in a classic 5 × 7 inch size, which is elegant to hold during the ceremony and photographs beautifully.

What kind of paper do you use?

We print on high quality 300gsm cardstock for a sturdy, elegant feel. Some designs are also available on textured cotton or rag paper (350–400gsm) for a luxe, artisanal look.

Do your vow cards usually come with envelopes included?

At Orchid & Ink, all our cards come with matching envelopes so they’re ready to gift.

Can I request a specific ribbon colour or paper texture?

🎉 Bridal Party Cards FAQ

What sizes do your cards come in?

Popular sizes for bridal party proposal cards are A6 (10.5 × 14.8 cm) and A7 (7.4 × 10.5 cm), available in both flat and folded versions. Flat cards are simple and modern, while folded cards give you extra space to write inside.

What’s the difference between a flat card and a folded card?

Flat cards are single-sided, simple, and modern - perfect for short one- or two-liner messages. Folded cards open like a greeting card, giving you extra space to write or print inside. Many couples prefer folded cards because they look more polished and elegant. They also keep the front design clean, instead of writing on the back, and photograph beautifully when opened for detail shots.

Black & white pairs beautifully with any wedding theme and works well for both bridesmaid and groomsmen cards. At Orchid & Ink, we also design cards with Peranakan-inspired motifs and colours - a unique nod to Singapore culture for couples who want something elegant yet meaningful.
